ABB The MS116-2.5 is a manual motor starter for motors up to 2.5A, providing motor protection with thermal and magnetic trip mechanisms.
Description
The ABB MS116-2.5 is a manual motor starter and protector for three-phase motors up to 2.5 A full-load current, providing thermal overload protection, electromagnetic short-circuit protection, and manual isolation combined in a single compact device. As part of ABB’s MS116 family, it delivers comprehensive motor protection for motors in the 0.55–0.75 kW range at 400 V, replacing the need for separate protective devices and simplifying control panel design and wiring. The adjustable current setting allows the device to be configured for the specific motor’s rated current.
Built to IEC 60947-4-1 and IEC 60947-2, the MS116-2.5 provides Class 10 thermal overload tripping and instantaneous electromagnetic short-circuit release, providing complete co-ordinated motor and feeder protection in a single DIN rail-mounted unit. Phase failure sensitivity is included, protecting the motor against single-phasing conditions. The manual operator allows the device to be used as an isolation switch, meeting the requirements of IEC 60947-3 for motor isolation.
Compatible with ABB’s range of MS116 auxiliary contact blocks, alarm contacts, and remote release modules, the MS116-2.5 can be integrated into motor monitoring and control systems where remote signalling of motor status and fault conditions is required. It is used in small pump controls, fan starters, conveyor drives, agricultural machinery, and general industrial small motor control applications. Panel builders and electrical contractors throughout Ireland and Europe specify the MS116 series as a reliable, compact, and standards-compliant motor protection solution for motors from fractional kW up to 20 A full-load current.
