ABB The MS116-6.3 is a manual motor starter for motors up to 6.3A, providing motor protection with thermal and magnetic trip mechanisms.
Description
The ABB MS116-6.3 is a manual motor starter and protector for three-phase motors up to 6.3 A full-load current, providing an integrated combination of thermal overload protection, electromagnetic short-circuit release, and manual isolation in a single DIN rail-mounted device. Part of ABB’s MS116 series, it covers motors in the 2.2 kW range at 400 V and delivers all necessary motor and feeder protection in a single unit, avoiding the need for separate circuit breaker and overload relay devices. The current setting is adjustable within the device’s rated range.
Compliant with IEC 60947-4-1 and IEC 60947-2, the MS116-6.3 incorporates Class 10 thermal overload tripping and instantaneous electromagnetic release, with built-in phase failure sensitivity for protection against supply asymmetry. The device can serve as both motor protection and isolation device within its interrupting capacity rating. Its compact DIN rail-mount construction enables efficient use of panel space, and its clear trip indication mechanism assists in fault diagnosis and reset after a protective operation.
The MS116-6.3 is compatible with ABB’s MS116 accessory range, including front-mount auxiliary contact blocks, alarm contacts, and remote shunt or voltage releases. It is used in motors driving small pumps, fans, conveyors, mixers, agitators, and other light to medium industrial drives in building services, food and beverage, water treatment, agricultural, and general manufacturing environments. Its single-unit design, co-ordinated protection characteristics, and compatibility with the broader ABB motor control product ecosystem make it a reliable and widely specified choice in the European electrical industry.
