Description
The ABB UA95 is a surge suppressor designed for use with ABB AF40 to AF96 series contactors, providing inductive coil transient suppression for control circuits operating at 100–250 V AC/DC. As with the UA75, the UA95 is sized and rated for the larger coil energy of the AF40–AF96 range, ensuring effective suppression of the higher energy transients generated by these larger contactors when the coil is de-energised. The 100–250 V AC/DC rating covers the full range of standard single-phase control voltages used in European and international industrial control applications, making the UA95 suitable for the widest practical range of AF40–AF96 control circuit designs.
The UA95 attaches directly to the AF40–AF96 contactor coil terminals using ABB’s snap-on coil accessory interface, providing a secure and correctly positioned suppressor connection without additional wiring or tools. This integrated approach ensures the device is always correctly installed and eliminates the variability of individual suppressor wiring. The varistor-based suppression circuit effectively clamps inductive voltage spikes to safe levels, protecting both the contactor coil insulation and any sensitive electronic control devices connected to the same control circuit.
The UA95 is widely used in industrial motor control centres, automation control panels, process plant controls, and building services installations using AF40–AF96 contactors with 100–250 V control voltages.
